the shading is well done =)
you catched a neat amount of realism here! nice man. considering it was just a speedpaint

Thanks a ton! I really like the detail I put into it too. Its quite easy just make a scale brush and do some brush tricks to it and then do bevel and emboss as a layer blending effect. After that I just did alot of my own brush stokes for the hard light. I learned that from Nebezial here on Deviantart.

yeah sometimes even the most simply tricks can make nice and very helpful results. i sometimes use the GLOW effect but someone must be cautious or it will end up pretty cheesy :D

Yeah some real simple tricks can sometimes make a real good piece :)
Yeah lol I am actually using that on my robot/Untitled Droid right now XD very helpful but also a bit dangerous like you said.

you can achieve the same effect with an overlay layer and a screenlayer. but i use the glow as a base nontheless =)

yeah I remember Rahll speaking of that. Oh and when I bevel and emboss scales I put the layer on hard light just to let you know if you ever want to do something scaley.

i would paint it by hand anyway =D
thats my way to learn. i work with photoshop every day actually but i like to keep it traditional when it comes to painting =)

Really I tried to do painting in acrylics and I just dont have fun with it, it takes a long time to blend and such Id just rather have the color there right away. But I respect that man and its great to not be using one kind of medium all the time I may start trying to sculpt things again and try some painting again as well :)

Wow! From far away it looked like a 3D rendering. But when I full-view, I can see all those little details. Awesome work!
